Netflix relaunches Cartoon Network, longtime fans weigh in


Almost a decade after its last episode aired, a beloved Cartoon Network animated series is back on the small screen thanks to Netflix. On July 16, the streaming giant presented its Johnny essay reboot, much to the delight of longtime fans who have been waiting for years to see more of the crazy adventures of Johnny, Duckey, and Susan and Mary.

Originally aired for a total of 117 episodes – Seasons 1-3 aired on The WB / The CW followed by Season 4-6 on Cartoon Network – between 2005 and 2014, Johnny essay follows the wacky adventures of imaginative boy Johnny, his dog Dukey, and his science-loving twin sisters, Susan and Mary. The official Netflix synopsis reads, “What problems could an imaginative boy, his loyal dog, and two science-loving sisters have? Hmm, that sounds like a challenge!” In the streamer’s reboot, there is a device called the GPS-scape which can send the gang around the world, and there is a baby robot presented to the Test family.

After Johnny essay ended in 2014, it was confirmed in May 2020 that Netflix was bringing the animated series to life. The streamer gave fans their first glimpse of the show in June this year, and fans were quick to vote on the reboot when Johnny essay dropped its seventh season, the Netflix premiere, on July 16.
