Marc Bernardin plays a character from the cartoon Clerks
Marc Bernardin, Kevin Smith’s fatman beyond co-host of the podcast who appeared briefly in Jay and Silent Bob rebootis back for Clerk III. The twist? His cameo, as seen in the recently released trailer, is actually an established character from the Clerks cartoon. Fans of this series, which aired on ABC before it was canceled but then periodically screened on Cartoon Network and Comedy Central, may recall Lando, a character who was introduced after a fake reader complained that the series did not feature enough people of color. Named for the star wars character, Lando was a friend of Dante and Randal, who made periodic cameos to give sage advice.
In the anime series, Lando was voiced by Pootie Tang and bee-movie starring Mario Joyner. Apparently the character was not originally going to appear in the film, with Smith hoping that Bernardin would join other cast members to play hockey on the roof of the Quick Stop, but after a scheduling conflict, Smith agreed. decided to bring Lando into the live-action canon of the View Askewniverse.
“If you remember, years and years ago we did a very unsuccessful Clerks cartoon, which aired twice on ABC before it was canceled, and then all six episodes were put on home video…. In the Clerks cartoons, they often went to their friend Lando for advice from time to time. Marc plays Lando in Clerk III — name verified as such.”

The film, which is set to be distributed by Lionsgate, is Smith’s first new feature film since Jay and Silent Bob rebootin which Brian O’Halloran’s Dante Hicks, the character from the point of view of the original Clerks and its 2006 sequel, Clerk II. This movie was the last time fans watched Jeff Anderson’s Randal Graves, who appears to be the lead in Clerk III.
Randal, who has always been a wish-fulfilling character for Smith himself, is about to suffer a life-threatening heart attack in the film, just like Smith did in real life. It will inspire the lifelong slacker to find the one thing he loves better than working in retail and making fun of his customers: he’s going to make a movie.
A film about retail and making fun of its customers, of course.
There have been a few different ideas for Clerk 3 over the years, one going so far that there was a live script reading in 2020. Smith has suggested in the past that the resister was Jeff Anderson, who is more reluctant to return to the world of Clerks than the rest of the cast. Randal is irreplaceable, however, and without all the leads on board, Smith said he was a non-runner. This time, Smith is bringing back Marilyn Ghigliotti, who played Dante’s girlfriend, Veronica, in Clerks. She’s the rare View Askew star who hasn’t been seen in another of Smith’s films since, which makes her return particularly significant.
The first one Clerks centered on a very bad day in the life of Dante Hicks, a convenience store employee who was called into work on his day off and spent the entire shift dealing with belligerent customers, freak events, d a sex-obsessed ex-girlfriend and his obnoxious best friend, Randal. Clerk II saw Dante ready to settle down and get married – but secretly in love with someone else and facing the reality that he has one day to decide where his heart goes.
Clerk 3 will be released this fall.
