Today in the eyes of the editorial staff: Hurricane Henri is heading towards Long Island, NY, as we end up with another scorcher with highs in the lower 90s and heat index readings 102 to 106. Krugman on masking: “Saying what should be obvious”, writes Paul Krugman, getting vaccinated and wearing a mask in public spaces are not “personal choices”. When you reject your shots or refuse to mask yourself, you increase my risk of catching a life-threatening or crippling disease, and also help perpetuate the social and economic costs of the pandemic. In a very real sense, the irresponsible minority deprives us of life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. […] since masks have become a front in the culture war, it is clear that many opponents of mask mandates are not just asking for the right to unmask themselves – they want to prevent others from acting responsibly. Tucker Carlson has called on his viewers to confront people they meet who wear masks, and there have been scattered reports of violent attacks on mask wearers.

“After rugby school he never forgot the lesson he learned there: that there would always be people who just wouldn’t like you, to whom you seemed as strange as the little ones. Green Men or the Slime from Outer Space, and there was no point in trying to change your mind.
