The Guardian cartoonists had a successful evening at the 2021 Political Cartoon of the Year Awards.

Ben Jennings was named Political Cartoonist of the Year for his portfolio throughout an eventful year, while Henny Beaumont won Covid Cartoon of the Year for Lost Generation, a cartoon released in June about the fate. of young people during the pandemic.

Receiving her honor, Jennings, whose work also appears in Journal i, said the year offered rich material for cartoonists: to tackle a year like 2021. In accepting her award, Beaumont said she was personally grateful but placed her work in a larger context: “Winning this award seemed very important to me and I feel there is real movement. towards appreciation and recognition of the contribution of women to political caricature. and I am proud to be part of this movement.

She also referred to those whose lives she portrayed in the winning picture. “The cartoon is dedicated to all the young people who missed so much during the lockdown, who went through such difficult times and took their responsibility to protect the most vulnerable so seriously than themselves. “
